A Quick Look at Cruisers vs. Touring Motorcycles
Cruiser bikes hardly need an introduction. From their signature rumble to their elegant styling, they’re in a class all their own. Touring bikes have many of the same features as cruisers and a host of other amenities for long-distance comfort. Here’s a head-to-head comparison to help you make a smart buy. Cruiser Motorcycles
The rumble of a V-twin engine tells you that a cruiser bike is approaching from miles away. They’re definitely built with a lot of attitude, and they turn heads everywhere they go. Riders love the rumble of a cruiser engine, its shiny paint job and chrome as far as the eye can see. They're heavier than other types of bikes and don’t offer as smooth of a ride, but they have a loyal following. Cruisers offer a lot of low-end torque, and the low-slung seat gives the bike a lower center of gravity for easier balance. There’s also a huge aftermarket parts market for all the tuners who like to spend every extra dollar they have tricking out their bikes.
Touring Motorcycles
Touring bikes are a great option for long-distance riding. They feature many of the same design features as cruisers, with an increased emphasis on storage and rider comfort. Touring bikes usually include larger windshields and seats, and more space for a passenger. Some touring bikes also include mid-frame air deflectors to keep the engine air off your legs while you ride. Touring bikes come at a higher price point, but you typically get what you pay for.
Which Type of Motorcycle Suits You Best?
You can’t go wrong with either type of motorcycle, and your final decision should ultimately be influenced by the type of riding you plan to do. Cruisers aren’t known for being as practical or comfortable for distance riding, but that’s not why people buy them. Touring bikes come at a higher price point, but that’s more than justified by all of the additional features and amenities. If you want a bold bike with a lot of attitude, you’ll definitely want to take some cruisers out for a test ride. If you want a luxury bike for long-distance riding, touring motorcycles will be a very attractive option if you're prepared to spend a little more.
