Winches and Plows, the Ultimate Winter ATV & UTV Accessories Articles from Barnes Bros. Motorcycles & Off Road

When winter comes a knocking, it's time to put that ATV to some good use other than playing around in the snow. Some of the top accessories you can attach to your ATV would be the plow and winch. These tools can help easily clear that driveway or path for you, or help get some much heavier obstacles moved. Here at Barnes Bros., we want to assist you in finding the perfect plow and/or winch for your ATV or other Powersports vehicle. Plows

A plow is a must when the snow starts to fall. You can clear the drive quicker than ever before when you set your side by side or ATV up with a rugged snow plow so you can tear through the snow. When picking a plow for your off road vehicle, it's important to make sure you pick out the right blade for your needs. First, the blade should be wide enough to clear the full width of your vehicle. This means that most ATVs should be fitted with a 50" blade, while side by sides will usually fit better with a 60" wide plow.

Don't skip when it comes to the sturdiness of your plow. If you're planning on moving a significant amount of snow, that load can pile up pretty deep and very heavy in no time, so thin steel may buckle or bend under the weight, spend the extra few bucks for a sturdy blade and you won't have to go back and buy a new one every season.

Winches

Winches, like plows, are great to have when things get slick. Winches can be a great investment as an all weather accessory for your off road vehicle, because they're useful in pretty much any heavy duty situation. Whether you're pulling yourself out of a ditch, or dragging a tree of the trail having a good winch hooked up to your ATV or side by side can be a huge help.

When you choose a winch you'll have to pick out the right level of power. Our service department can help you find the right match between the power and capabilities of your winch and your vehicle. One thing to keep in mind when looking at a winch is the type of rope it uses. More powerful winches are typically equipped with braided wire ropes, while the lower power winches will use synthetic rope which is lighter but not quite as strong.
